Sheffield Forgers are delighted to confirm their first X-League Grand Prix will take place on Saturday May 18 at Mosborough Miners Welfare.

Set to start around midday, with the final timings still to be confirmed, the tournament will feature teams from the X-League heartlands of Oldham and Warrington.

The Warriors and the Titans will travel from Warrington, with the Owls and St Anne’s expected to join them from Oldham.

A contingent from Oxford is expected to travel north to represent X-League’s southern outposts.

The Forgers will represent local South Yorkshire pride and should hopefully be joined by a contingent from the Sheffield Eagles Women.

Rugby union clubs Mosborough RUFC and Hallamshire RUFC have also been invited to participate.

The day’s action will take place in a superb setting, with a proper clubhouse bar complementing the pleasant, leafy location on Sheffield’s border with Derbyshire.

A nearby tram link provides a handy way to reach central Sheffield, should players want to extend the entertainment into the evening.

Tom Schofield, the Forgers’ X-League manager, is delighted that the club is staging the event.

“We’re thrilled to host the first X-League Grand Prix here at Mosborough Miners Welfare,” he said.

“It’s going to be a fantastic day of rugby league, bringing together teams from across the heartlands.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone to our home for what promises to be an exciting tournament.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for our club to showcase our local talent and for rugby league fans to enjoy a great day of action.

“We can’t wait to see some top-class rugby league and hopefully, the Forgers will do South Yorkshire proud!”

Forgers’ open age team assistant coach and X-League promotions officer Zack Wilson will be playing in the event.

“This is another step forward for X-League in Sheffield,” he said.

“I’ve wanted to play in a hometown Grand Prix for a while now, so I’m delighted to get the opportunity.

“I can’t wait to put the purple and gold shirt on to play X-League, especially in the week of my 50th birthday.

“It will be fantastic to get my boots on and get on the pitch with friends old and new from across both codes of rugby, and enjoy a great day of X-League.”
